Taking place at the Memorial Park Course in Houston Texas, the Houston Children’s Open provided plenty of action over the weekend with Min Woo Lee securing his first PGA Tour trophy on the Sunday.

The Australian’s putter was on fire on the Saturday having made eight consecutive one-putts, resulting in him carding a third round of 63. He started the Sunday with a 4-shot lead but had to fight for victory right to the very end.

Both Gary Woodland and Scottie Scheffler were giving their final round their all to try and overtake Lee. Woodland made 4 birdies on his front 9 while Scheffler made a valiant 4-hole-run of birdies between holes 13 to 16 to climb to 19-under-par.

Feeling the pressure in the Texan heat, Min Woo Lee sent his tee shot into the water on the par-5 16th resulting in a bogey that knocked him down to 20-under-par. With two holes to go, Lee kept a level head and made a pair of pars to keep the Americans at bay.

Having previously won three times on the DP World Tour, it was Lee’s first PGA Tour win, and he was very pleased with his performance, especially considering he had the World No.1 golfer breathing down his neck.

“Scottie is a wonderful golfer and he keeps you on your toes. This is my first time being in front and trying to hold a lead. I’m glad I got it done but man, I’m just very exhausted. It was a lot of mental grind. I’m so proud of the way I handled myself.”

With The Masters tournament taking place just next week, it’s always fascinating to consider who’s currently in-form and hungry for a green jacket. Scheffler will undoubtedly be looking for a hat-rick having won the Masters in both 2022 and 2024. Rory McIlroy also seems ready to give it his all after his recent Players Championship win, he finished in 5th place this weekend.

We can’t wait to see all the action unfold at Augusta National, who do you think has the best chance of winning the 89th Masters? We’re available in the pro shop this week should you like to book yourself any golf lessons or you’re interested in treating yourself to some new gear.
