Well done to all who braved the weather.
Drainage work on the 5th green is going well although has been halted slightly due to the recent bad weather but this has shown that the new drainage does work.
Winter tees have now been put in place to protect the grass tees.
Please note that there are various areas that are roped off, this is for protection of your course, please adhere to them and walk around the areas rather than through them, this work is essential so that the course is in the best shape possible.
Due to the very poor weather, ALL bunkers are considered GUR. If your ball comes to rest in one, you may take free relief in accordance with the rules. Please note that it is not compulsory to take relief so you may play the shot as it lies if you so wish.
Preferred lies are now in place on cut and prepared grass only. On fairways, fringes and greens the ball may be marked, lifted and cleaned, then replaced at a point no further than 6 inches from its original position, no nearer the hole. Plugged balls may be marked, lifted, cleaned and then placed as near to the original spot as possible through the green.
Not long to go now til the start of the Junior Academy, there are still some places available for all standards. Emphasis will be on playing, having fun, rules and etiquette.
Skills challenges and awards will now be incorporated into our junior coaching, giving everyone something to aim for.
Please contact Andrew Rigby for more information 0113 265 9203 option 2.
The 2015/2016 European Tour season is already underway with The Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa at the beautiful Leopard Creek Country Club. Set alongside the national park, the views from the golf course are fantastic. Charl Schwartzel was a popular home winner with a 4 shot victory at 15 under par. Players now head to Australia for the Australian PGA Championship or a select few stay in South Africa for the Nedbank Challenge.
This week take a peek into Charl Schwartzel's golf bag:

Controlling the ball can be very difficult in the windy, winter conditions. Therefore keeping the ball low is a useful shot to have. To play this shot:
Take at least one more club.
Grip the club further down.
Stand a fraction closer to the ball.
Place the ball an inch further back in the stance.
Go ahead and make a normal swing but at 70% of your usual power.
All these alterations will lead to the ball flying a little lower with less spin which is ideal when the wind is up. Please speak to Adrian or Andy for more advice. Click here to e-mail us.
