Coming soon..
The swing centre is not far from completion with flooring now down and some of the carpeting done. Excitement is building to our opening day from both members and staff. The ability to stay dry and play various courses during the winter is most appealing. Also the opportunity to take lessons to a new level of understanding is a fantastic prospect.
Thinking about Christmas gift ideas?

A very wet and windy weekend saw competition entries very low, however a few hard souls did venture out with some very good scoring.

One or two 'winter tees' have now been put in place to protect the grass tees.
Due to the very poor weather, ALL bunkers are considered GUR. If your ball comes to rest in one, you may take free relief in accordance with the rules. Please note that it is not compulsory to take relief so you may play the shot as it lies if you so wish.
Preferred lies are now in place on cut and prepared grass only. On fairways, fringes and greens the ball may be marked, lifted and cleaned, then replaced at a point no further than 6 inches from its original position, no nearer the hole. Plugged balls may be marked, lifted, cleaned and then placed as near to the original spot as possible through the green.
Registration for our junior academy is now open with classes starting in December and running through January with the first junior competition being held in January marking the start of the Junior Order of Merit. There will be one competition each month with prizes and points being awarded.
Skills challenges and awards will now be incorporated into our junior coaching, giving everyone something to aim for.

An immensely strong field gathered in China last week for the WGC - HSBC Champions event and boy was it worth it. Scotsman Russell Knox secured his first European Tour victory (predominantly based in the States) with a four-under-par final round for a two-shot victory. Knox made an impressive 25 birdies over the four rounds in Shanghai, averaging just over six per round, with only five blemishes on his scorecards for the week. But it wasn't just him who had a good week, Englishman Danny Willett continued his fantastic season by finishing in third place courtesy of a closing round of 10-under-par! This finish acts as a major boost for Danny's Race to Dubai ambitions as it moves him to within touching distance of Rory McIlroy who is currently at the top of the rankings with two events to go.
The second stage of the European Tour Qualifying School finished this week with many future tour hopefuls competing for a chance to play in the final stage and earn their European Tour and Challenge Tour cards. Scoring has been fantastic at all four venues. Leeds based Marcus Armitage unfortunately came up one shot shy of qualification but has already secured his Challenge Tour card due to his performance this year on the EuroPro Tour.
This week, we look into the bag of Players Champion Ricky Fowler.

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
An old adage but still holds true, especially during winter golf. Do you have everything you need for all that you could be presented with? Here is a short list of ideas that the well prepared winter golfer has:
Waterproof shoes
Hand warmers
Warm mitts
Wooley Hat
Sturdy umbrella
An extra towel to put inside the spokes of your umbrella
Extra gloves or winter gloves
Good waterproofs
Layered clothing that is flexible and allows you to swing
Change of socks/clothes for after the round
There are lots more things that can make life out on the course during the winter a bit more comfortable. If you have neglected any of these or maybe they are a bit old and worn out, now is a good time to replace them. Do it before you are out in the cold, wind and rain and realise that you shoes aren't waterproof anymore!
