Lockdown Lessons
Do you have a pre-shot routine? If you have spent some of your lockdown time watching the golf then you will notice that all the top players have a pre-shot routine which enables them to stand over the shot confident that a good swing will send the ball where they want it to go. This routine is even more important late on a Sunday, down the final stretch with the tournament on the line. Why not take this time to build your own routine and; most importantly, practice it until it becomes second nature. Here is an example of something you could use, feel free to add bits or take them out as you see fit, it is your routine after all: · Figure out how far you have to hit the shot. · Assess the lie – is that going to change the shot or club. · Check the wind. · Decide what shot you’re going to hit – it’s important to visualise this. · Pick the club you feel confident with. · Stand behind the ball and pick a target – this could be a tree in the background · Make a full practice swing as if you were hitting the shot. · Walk into the ball and set up to that target. · Have one last look at the target. · Make a fully committed swing. · Accept the result. If you do this on every shot it doesn’t guarantee that you will hit a great shot but it gives you a much better chance of doing so.
