Tyrrell Hatton followed up his impressive BMW PGA Championship win with a T3 on the PGA Tour over the weekend - not bad after a late dash across the pond following his Wentworth triumph! In Europe, Aaron Rai has finished first, second and third over his last four events.

How do you measure up?

Arccos Golf conducted an annual study culminating in the company's distance report which included the average driving distance of amateur golfers in different age categories.

The data is based on the average taken from over 26 million shots hit from golfers from handicaps 0 - 25.

Here are the findings for 2019:

Average Driving Distance By Age in 2019:

  • 10-19: 234.2 yards.
  • 20-29: 239.7 yards.
  • 30-39: 233.7 yards.
  • 40-49: 225.9 yards.
  • 50-59: 215.4 yards.
  • 60-69: 204.5 yards.
  • 70+: 190.4 yards.

Bounce made simple

You’ll often hear golf commentators say “the bounce is your friend” but what is ‘bounce’ on a wedge? Well, it refers to the angle of the leading edge and plays an important role in how your wedge interacts with the turf through impact. 

High vs. low bounce wedges

As the image shows above, the higher the wedge bounce the more the leading edge is off the ground and pointing upwards. 

But how does this help you? Well, having the correct bounce for the course conditions and your swing type will offer additional forgiveness and promote a better strike, which is something that we can talk you through more in-store.
