Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Obviously, the big talking point at the minute is Coronavirus. It has been announced recently that golf and golf courses are ‘reasonably safe’, as there is minimal contact, not big group gatherings and you’re out in the fresh air.

However, there is still advice to be followed:

Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds.
Always wash your hands when you get home or into work.
Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands). when you cough or sneeze.
Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards.
Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

Course Information

The Green’s Team have been working tirelessly to provide you with a course in great condition. This work has been continuing as you have no doubt seen with some drainage work being carried out on the 14th, 16th, 17th, and 18th. There are plans to do more, but it is all weather dependent.

This week has seen the greens being verti-drained and cut. This will allow some of the moisture to pass through, improving the playing surfaces.

Captain's Drive-In

A great turnout for the new Captain, Mark Whitaker for his Drive-In. Mark was accompanied by former Ladies captain and president, Ann McMullen.

A solid strike right down the middle saw Mark hit the ball 205 yards and Ann’s tee shot reached 143 yards to make a combined total of 348 yards. John Roberts was the lucky winner of the sweep and has a few extra quid in his account to spend.

Tip of The Month - March

Keep those clubs clean!

Make sure that you take a second after each shot to clean your clubs and make sure that there is not mud in the grooves. Golf clubs have grooves to help you control the ball so by having them caked in mud isn’t giving you a fair chance of hitting greens and controlling chip shots.

This also goes for the putter, make sure the face is clear before hitting putts.

And your balls… Whilst we are on preferred lies, take the opportunity to give your ball a clean, this will help it fly correctly, (providing you hit it correctly).

Sociable sessions

Playing golf with your friends is one of the best things about this sport but, if you’re tired of playing long strokeplay rounds in your fourball, why not try some of the fun formats below the next time you find yourself going out in a four?

4BBB

This game is a lot of fun and sees both team members play their own ball, with the lowest score counting at each hole. In a fourball betterball match, players receive 90% of the difference from the player with the lowest handicap.

Greensomes

Both partners tee off on each hole. You then choose the best drive and play alternate shots for the rest of the hole. Your greensomes handicap should be 60% of the lower partner’s handicap added to 40% of the higher partner’s.

Gruesomes

This is a great way to find out who your true friends are as the format is the same as Greensomes only your opposition decide which drive you play from. Although don't blame us if you all end up falling out over it.
