Woods you believe it? Once again, the final nine holes at The Masters at August National didn’t fail to deliver an exciting finish. Two holes in one were recorded on the 16th brought cheers and joy and four balls in the water at the iconic 12th hole brought ‘oohh’s’ and sorrow. The golfing machine that was Francesco Molinari for 54 holes stumbled on the 12th and his challenge finally disintegrated on the par-5 15th, after a poor lay up and a chunked wedge shot into the water. |
At one point there were five players tied for the lead with six holes to play, but one by one they fell away leaving one man to make that familiar walk up the 18th as champion. I say a familiar walk as he had done it on four previous occasions, that man was Tiger Woods.
Three-years-ago, he could barely walk and was not sure if his career as a golfer was over, fast forward to 2018 and he challenged in two Majors and announced his return to the winner’s circle in epic fashion. The comeback to the top of the golfing world was completed with a cool, calm and collected win and his 15th Major championship victory at Augusta.
Maybe there’s still a chance that Jack’s 18 Majors could be under threat, would you bet against it? |

Tip of the month It’s difficult to give a tip this week and not mention Tiger’s win at The Masters.
One of the things that struck us this week was how good his tempo was with his swing. He wasn’t trying to lash at it and hit the ball as far as he could or keep up with his playing partners. There was a lot of ¾ swings and some lovely balanced follow through’s which shows that he was swinging within himself.
Here is a lesson for us all. Next time you are out on the course, take one more club than you think you should, grip about an inch further down the handle and make sure that you feel the backswing complete before moving into the downswing.
When done correctly, this will feel like you have forever to hit the ball. You may find that you hit the ball more solidly and you may feel like you swing it smoother because you have one more club.
Let us know if you try this tip and how you get on with it.

Do you often find yourself stuck between clubs? One club will launch too far beyond your target whilst the other will leave you short. If so, you're either very unlucky or you need to come and see us for a gapping session. |
| Example of poor distance gapping
|
|
Distance gapping is the art of putting your set together whilst ensuring each gap between one club and the next is equal. Take your wedges as an example. Say you have a PW with around 46 degrees of loft and sand wedge at 56 degrees; this 10-degree gap could leave you with a distance gap of around 30 yards or more! What do you do if you need to play a shot right in the middle of those distances? The same can be said at the other end of your set, but usually this will involve two clubs going the same distance. If you have a 3-iron in the bag as well as a hybrid and a 5-wood, chances are you'll be hitting them similar distances - so it's time for one to go! If any of this is resonating with you, then let’s get you booked in before you head out for your next round.
