Competition news

Saturday Stableford

Congratulations to J.Wiggins who was the winner of Division one with a score of 39 points. In second place was S.Adkins with a score of 38 points and in third place was C.Bursey with a score of 37 points.

The Division two winner was B.Fogal with the best score of the day with 40 points. In second place was J.Bunn with 39 points and in third place was S.Darby with 39 points.

Finally, in Division three, the winner with a score of 39 points was M.Watston. In second place was A.Rigg with a score of 38 points and in third place was M.Downes with a score of 36 points.

Sunday Stableford

Well done to R.Davenport who was the winner of the Sunday Stableford with a score of 36 points. In second place also with a score of 36 points, but just missed out on countback was B.Notay, and in third place was S.Howard with a score of 35 points.

Tip of the month

Set up for better shots

Tour pros are constantly checking their set up. Making sure their feet and shoulders are aligned correctly, their grip is sound, and their ball position is correct.

As average golfers, we tend to neglect these things all too often when a number of our ‘faults’ can be traced back to our set up.

Here is a little diagram that Andy uses for some of his lessons to illustrate the correct ball position.

Urethane cover? So what...

A common phrase we hear here in the shop is: “It’s round and white, it can’t be that different”. The truth is that every single golf ball is unique in some way – whether it’s the ball’s core, layers or dimple pattern – but there is one thing that all premium balls have in common…

Try Urethane with the Z-Star and Z-Star XV
Like all tour-level golf balls, the Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star XV boast a Urethane cover, which sets the bar for cover materials.

Urethane – a soft and flexible polymer – will give you the highest possible spin rates combined with the best feel; benefits you will really notice when hitting chip and pitch shots.

However, if you like to play lower flighted chip-and-runs you might prefer other options in Srixon’s range that are made with Ionomer covers. While this type of cover doesn’t generate as much spin, it is slightly more durable and offers a cheaper alternative.

As you can see on these 50-yard pitch shots, the extra spin from the Urethane cover ball on the right helps it to stop much quicker than the Ionomer cover ball on the left, which rolls out on landing.

The Hi-Toe wedge, which is only available in 58, 60 and 64 degrees, has an expanded toe area that helps aid control on open-faced shots and full-width grooves that deliver high spin across the entire face.
