Do you really need 14 clubs during the winter?
Having had a few 3 club comps this winter and seeing that some, if not, most of the scores have been pretty impressive, leads me to think that this time of year would be good to get creative and take half a set out on to the course. Maybe leave out the woods all together? Maybe leave the lob wedge in the locker.
Having less clubs will do your game good as it will remove indecision, is it a 5 or 6 iron? If you only have a 4 or 7 then you have this choice made for you. It will increase your creativity which can only be a good thing for your summer scores.
Also, less clubs in the bag means less weight which may lead to you carrying them rather than 30+ kg on a trolley which increases the wear and tear on the course, something that we all agree, given the amount of rain over the last 3 months would be a good thing. So next time you're out for a friendly knock, try half a set and see how it affects your thinking and your game.
