Golf Cave Now Open!!!

After all the hard work, the Golf Cave is now open. Featuring Foresight's GC2 Launch Monitor combined with the HMT (head measurement technology), you now see the most comprehensive data on all your shots.

There was some great feedback from the opening day on Wednesday's Nearest the Pin. Following on from that, there have already been a number of members taking up the opportunity to play some of the great courses on the system, from this year's Ryder Cup course, Hazeltine, this year's Open Championship venue, Royal Troon to Celtic Mannor and Congressional.

The Golf Cave also offers the opportunity for ball fitting, club fitting and gap testing. All can be invaluable in the pursuit of golfing improvement.

Saturday showed what a hardy and talented bunch of members we have here at Leeds Golf Club. Braving 40-60 mph winds and a little light drizzle using only 4 clubs for the round saw some great scoring. Well done to all that played.

Winter tees have now been put in place to protect the grass tees.

Drainage work on the 5th green is going well although has been halted slightly due to the recent bad weather but this has shown that the new drainage does work.

Please note that there are various areas that are roped off, this is for protection of your course, please adhere to them and walk around the areas rather than through them, this work is essential so that the course is in the best shape possible.

Due to the very poor weather, ALL bunkers are considered GUR. If your ball comes to rest in one, you may take free relief in accordance with the rules. Please note that it is not compulsory to take relief so you may play the shot as it lies if you so wish.

Preferred lies are now in place on cut and prepared grass only. On fairways, fringes and greens the ball may be marked, lifted and cleaned, then replaced at a point no further than 6 inches from its original position, no nearer the hole. Plugged balls may be marked, lifted, cleaned and then placed as near to the original spot as possible through the green.

The first session for the winter was held this Saturday with the opportunity for our aspiring youngsters playing in the Golf Cave. Well done to young Oliver Early who won both driving challenges, Longest Drive and Nearest the Line.

Hopefully the weather will be a little better on Sunday so that we can get out and complete some of the Bronze Award skills challenges.

Skills challenges and awards will now be incorporated into our junior coaching, giving everyone something to aim for.

The ever entertaining Bubba Watson won the Hero World Challenge in the US this week with a fantastic score of 26 under par. Playing at Tiger Wood's home course of Albany and having the former world number one on hand as host, the final day saw birdies galore with England's Justin rose shooting a course record 62 on the final day and Ricky Fowler proving that he is no longer "underated", shooting 64 and having Bubba worried for a while.

Much of last week was spent dissecting Tiger Woods' surprisingly candid press conference and interview with Time Magazine. Lines like "anything else is gravy," and "it was a good run," seemed to indicate an air of resignation from the 14-time major champ. But on Sunday, Woods stopped by the broadcast booth during the final round of the Hero World Challenge to clarify the state of his health and his psyche.

When asked by NBC/Golf Channel's Roger Maltbie about his "different perspective," Woods said this:

"The difference is the health is different from what it used to be," Woods said of having a nerve issue in his back. "And that's part of the recognition that I think you're seeing, is that I understand this is very different. Does that mean I'm not going to rehab, I'm not going to train, and not going to fight to get back? Of course I am. I'm far from being done, but I have to be patient, which I am not very good at when it comes to that side of it."

Even one the greatest players to play the game even struggles with patience!!!

This week take a peek Bubba Watson's unusual, personal yet very effective golf bag:

How far do you hit your clubs?

A question that is routinely asked during golf lessons and club fittings. The answers do vary from honest to hopeful.

One of the best pieces of advice that I ever received as an amateur was to find out exactly how far I carried each iron. This gave me a much better understanding of the shots that I could play and attempt when out on the course and especially on other courses.

With the option of Gap Testing now available in the Golf Cave, Now is a great time to learn something new about your golf game.

Srixon AD333 golf balls - 2015

Srixon AD333

Switching to a yellow ball in the winter is not a bad idea, it will certainly save you from losing so many balls for when you stray off line and when the light is fading. Srixon's AD333 is an excellent option; give it a go and see how you get on.
